S. Rae Hickok, was founded in 1909 by buying a small jewelry plating business for $350. He led the company's expansion as a major manufacturer of wallets, belts, pants, suspenders, cuff links, tie clasps, and other men's accessories. Mr. Hickok also developed prototypes of safety seat belts, which ultimately became standard automobile equipment and are credited with saving many lives. Because of his early struggles as a business official, Mr. Hickok decided to help other fledgling executives by founding the Young Presidents Organization, which drew thousands of members worldwide. He was also a co-founder and honorary chairman of the World Presidents Organization and a leader of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization.

Hickok was one of many companies that specialized in men's jewelry and accessories. Much of it was art deco or mid-century modern in design. The earlier pieces were marketed in beautiful bakelite and plastic boxes which will be marked Hickok on the bottom with the company crest.

The Tie Clip came into prominence as a men's fashion accessory in the 1920s as the successor to the Tie Pin. In the late 1800s men's neckwear was produced from very light fabrics, which creased easily and were easily blown around by wind, so the Tie Pin was a necessary gents tool.
